This song hits home with me as a odependent spouse of a person with yet to be diagnosed bipolar. The first verse...they don't really know what's wrong or if something is wrong so its not discussed or denied. Meanwhile the spouse is analyzing everything " I mystified the simple life I covered up with consciousness I saw myself and broke it down 'Til nothing more was left." Then more denial on the bipolar person's part. She turns things around and gets so serious because she finally gets help and the mood stabilizers make her personality flat. And then the spouse realizes the potential for the relationship to grow into authentic intimacy has its limits and "she runs away" at the end because they always keep running from those that love them.
