If this song is indeed about jealousy, couldn't it actually be referring to "shocking" the monkey on your partner's back? After all, don't we all have a monkey on our backs? I personally like the inner self shocking the world around him. "Watch the monkey get hurt" says to me that from a spiritual standpoint the monkey has been upset by this person's real self. I think you could apply jealousy to that animalistic instinct inside us all. I love this song and how you can really feel a sense of strong emotion taking hold. It will always be a classic no matter how many interpretations are made.
