I used to hear this song and think it was about some one that got broken up with and then preserving (surviving) then the one who did the breaking up comes crawling back. but what I now think it's about is A person was in a bad relationship and had to be strong and break up with the one they were with.
instead of trying to understand how they felt and why it was happening the other just tried to make them feel worse about them leaving them then came crawling back for another chance but then the person who did the breaking up was over them and was done feeling bad about it. I recently went thru a break up where I gotten broken up with and tried to hurt her as I left. I'm glad I realized the real meaning of this song before I left things between us forever broken,
