Not having seen the Gilmore Girls, I had a totally different take on the song when a friend shared it with me. I found it to have a spiritual meaning -- since the main reason we're here is to wake up and see the insanity of our own thoughts, I found "now that I've worn out the world I'm on my knees in fascination" to mean the point that we all eventually get to (hopefully) when we are so tired of trying to manipulate our life situations and relationships that we drop to our knees and just let go. It's at this point when we are in a humble yet trusting state that we begin to reflect light. The 2nd verse represents the mental suffering we go through the brings us to our knees and the darkness that we experience - the dark night of the soul. The final verse beautifully outlines the steps we need to take to become a vehicle to reflect light, help others heal, and change the world.

@lovinRIC Brilliantly put! I saw the show but I couldn't agree more with this interpretation! All in all, that spiritual awakening is the only thing that can open up our souls for any kind of real love, be it mundane or superior.
