I'm pretty sure this song is about a girl who cheated on him and as the song progresses his attraction towards her "carousing" (not kerosene) eyes turns to suspicion to hatred. At first she's a riddle in the beautiful sky. Then she's a target that he cannot hit. It's also interesting to me that he seems to be the one cheating in his song "The Gardener". I think he continually poses the question: "where do my bluebird fly" as he's wondering where she goes and who she's cheating with. Anyway, that's my take. Beautiful song either way.
