I think you are indeed correct, but I think it can just as easily be looked at from the perspective of an older person whose wife or husband of many years has passed away who wakes and leaves the house, perhaps for the usual morning coffee somewhere they used to enjoy with their partner, and realizes they are alone for the first time in a long time.
