Pretty simple, it's about someone who experienced what they thought was their one true love, someone who idealizes it and thinks with everything bone in his body that they found it in this person, and then everything went to hell. He's disfigured emotionally and screams that he won't open himself up like that again. So now he's angry saying "honey, i am not some broken thing, I do not wait in the dark waiting for thee", but he does. Love's a bitch.

Interesting that you added, "but he does" at the end. Is that anywhere in the song? Or is that just generally society's view of someone who is not lusting after love? I think THAT is the point of the song. It's not that he does, it's that he doesn't. He wants to be free of it. But society will still just "stand there in the glass looking at me" like a broken animal.
