Lyric discussion by ihobbes

not really an interpretation of the song, but relevant info.

The ancient greek philosopher plato, in his work the republic, argues that three components comprise the human soul-- "the rational" which desires wisdom, "the spirited" which seeks honor and triumph, and "the appetitive" which pursues "base" desires such as sex and food.

Plato divided humanity into classes based on which component of their soul (the rational, spirited, or appetitive) was most dominant.

-People who are predominantly rational, who seek wisdom and truth, he called "gold souls" and Plato believed this was the class of people most suited to rule and govern-- as they would use their rational tendencies to make wise decisions for the benefit of all people.

-Those people who are driven primarily by appetite Plato called "bronze souls," and these people (the majority of society) are those who form the bottom layer, workers and farmers who are satisfied as long as their basic needs are met.

-People who are driven by spirit Plato called..... "Silver souls." He envisioned the silver souls as a noble warrior class of honor and courage. A silver soul would fight with honor to defend the people of his society.

I wonder if Victoria and Alex have read Plato, or if this is coincidental. Either way its interesting. Perhaps the song is somehow about courage or honor? Being a "silver soul" and fighting for something, a relationship or person perhaps?
