Lyric discussion by Manchestah

This is probably the story of my life at the moment. I can feel every single word of the song. I'm in love with a girl that I met several months ago. Things between us didn't work, we both made mistakes. But I still can't forget her, and I tried to reach her a few times with no luck. I think Fran was in the same situation when he wrote this tune.

"Every day I wake up and it's Sunday Whatever's in my eye won't go away"

A lot of people get depressed on Sundays, don't know why. It happens to me too. "Whatever's in my eye"... well, obviously he's crying.

"The radio is playing all the usual And what's a Wonderwall anyway?"

As we all know, Wonderwall is a love song - and when your heart is broken, you just hate every love song. Maybe Wonderwall reminds him about the girl he lost.

"Because my inside in outside My right side's on the left side"

This image is amazing. The first line obviously means that he's exposing all his feelings, showing the deepest things in his heart. "My right side's on the left side" - right side of the brain controls emotions, left side controls more logic subjects. I think that's the meaning of the sentence - his emotions are way stronger than his thoughts.

"'Cause I'm writing to reach you now but, I might never reach you I only want to teach you, about you, But that's not you"

He tries so hard to get to her, even realising that it might be impossible. I feel exactly the same right now. He also wants to make her realise about all the good things in her. And he admits that maybe all those good things are just in his imagination, but stills wants to share them with the girl.

"It's good to know that you are home for Christmas It's good to know that you are doing well It's good to know that you all know I'm hurting It's good to know I'm feeling not so well"

I think Christmas are a time to get in touch with your loved ones. So he's telling her that he's glad she's having a good time. At the same time, he admits how bad he's feeling. Probably the exact opposite to her.

"Maybe then tomorrow will be Monday And whatever's in my eye should go away Still the radio keeps playing all the usual And what's a Wonderwall anyway?"

He starts thinking that maybe he could get over the situation. But then he finds out that nothing has changed.

I really love this song. Travis are an awesome band.

Perfect. You have explained it all so correctly. I got a bit confused with video, but thank you. I wonder how many young boys and in 30s (including me) knows about Travis more than Coldplay? Very good band... Old is Gold.
