That DC10 -- maybe it's Joe heading to the Spanish coast on a low-cost flight to enjoy himeself, like millions of other Brits, and feeling a little guilty about the people who suffered there in the past. Joe Strummer loved Spain but didn't ignore its dark side in the old Franco days. What a great song.

@Blod I've always considered "flying in on a DC-10 tonight" as a reference to the DC-10 disaster that occurred at Chicago O'Hare when a fully loaded DC-10 had an engine break off during takeoff. It was a full flight with people flying to Honolulu for Holiday. No one survived. It grounded the DC-10 fleet and started the downfall of the jet being phased out for passenger flights. They continue to use some of them but strictly as cargo carriers. I think the lyric was added to incite or embellish the fright of the times. When I frame it as...
