Am I the only one who knows how to use psychedelics on this site? A few people have mentioned DMT, which is very close, but they haven't really explained it. This song is most explicitly about mushrooms, and the mushroom God that you contact when you take them for shamanic purposes. If you actually know how to use psychedelics properly, you can open your third eye, which is why he says "Ya'll can see me now cuz you don't see with your eye, you perceive with your mind." It also explains the line "Hero who appears in you to clear your view when you're too crazy." Mushrooms delete your cultural programming and force you to see the world for what it really is, as seen in the lines "Nah you shouldn't be scared, I'm good at repairs and I'm under each snare." and - "bet you didn't think so I command you to." The last line that proves beyond all doubt that the song is about the Mushroom (also called The Logos, The Alien, The Other, etc...) is the line where he says "I'm in 'em, every sproutin tree, every child apiece, every cloud and sea." Mushrooms teach you that all life is connected, that we are all one and that the gift of life is in all of us. I could go more in-depth, but I'm too lazy for now.

It could be both. DMT and Mushrooms are so similar but the last lines of the first verse as well as the first lines of the second verse point towards DMT. "One Toke" and "Without it you make it" as you smoke DMT and it's naturally in your body. A high mushroom dose is basically a DMT trip except it lasts hours rather than a few minutes.
