This is almost the definition of youth in a song, like many others here said before. It totally breaks my heart, especially so since at 35 now, I look back on my life and see how little I enjoyed my youth, although I could have.
But I also think the song expresses a certain immaturity in youth spirit, a "naivité", which makes things look larger than life.
