I actually believe that the name "Mary Jane" refers to his only and forever love.He doesnt express his lover's real name(don t know why)obviously..Most of his songs,he is talking about his loneliness as if he had left by his lover..For ex,in "place to be" he compares his previous and present feelings..He may have been left or he just never may have revealed his feelings to that "woman"..And in "time has told me" he again searches for some hope about love or something to keep on living..I don t know why but .ı always believe that he secretly loved a woman..Whether they got together or not,it is obvious that he had never forgotten that pretty lady..Fortunately,he never did..Unless;we wouldn t be listenin these beautiful and full of emotion songs..Thank you Nick so much for these beautiful legendary songs..RIP<3
