To me, this song is about looking back on your first great love. They will always have a place in your heart... but you were young.. and you have since moved on and away. ("flew home back to where we met") Part of the song is reliving how you left and moved on... said goodbye to something that was once so important to you on your path to growing up. In many ways, you're still insecure about what you had back then, wondering if it had the same importance in their life as yours. But you've grown up.
