Lyric discussion by naplesrocker

I have always found this song to be fascinating.. I always thought that it was about two people talking about the different ways to die. But as I look at the lyrics it almost seems like an argument with the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper(death) is the first verse and then the person fighting death starts in verse three. The fighter is saying that he is not going yet therefore Deaths heart will b e broken and pride will be stolen because he didn't claim another victim...

Keep in mind that in the song the verses are song in different tones... death is all calm, collective, and even sounds a little old. He is explaining the facts of death, while the person who is fighting death is yelling and very aggressive. This song is a complete package with the lyrics and the way it is sung go together hand in hand.

What is this song were about a parent facing their child's mortality. I.e. some accident, and having to decide whether to "pull the plug" or not. Your heart's never been broken, your pride (in the child) has never been stolen. But on the other hand, there's lots of kids that die that haven't accomplished as much.. The argument that nobody wants to face. I never realized the differing points of view until I read your post, and I totally agree with your perspective, thank you for the enlightenment. But maybe it can be a bit more mundane (although very much...

sorry damn autocorrect... What if this song were about a parent facing a child's mortality...

@naplesrocker I don't think that the song is this deep. In my opinion, this song is pretty straightforward. It's just explaining that people can't say "it's alright" without understanding what the person is going through. "Easy for you to say, your heart has never been broken up." Only when the person faces the problem their own selves, and overcomes it, can they say "it's alright". The song lyrics pretty much spell it out for you, I just think you're just thinking it through too much.
