Everyone that hates on this song, saying that it makes her sound narcissistic, or that you "find it hard to feel bad" for a pretty girl, as someone else said, is pushing a sad double standard. It actually solidifies part of what this song states -"Every ill that I must suffer merely brought on by myself". Yes, being an "ugly" girl can be a horrific experience, potentially destroying self esteem and views of personal worth. But it is quite unfair to say that a girl cannot have issues due to being pretty as well. I have had the experience of being on both sides of the fence. I was pretty fat once upon a time, and dealt with all those painful issues of being an "ugly girl". And then, after losing weight and really working on my appearance, I got to play the other side. I'm a "pretty girl" now, and it is not without it's terrors. I, too, have been raped, I do not get taken seriously in my work(pretty female scientist garner little respect), and am otherwise stereotyped by other women who see me as competition, or as someone to hate to make themselves feel better. Basically, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. As women, we should empower each other, not squabble over petty differences. Hell, the simple fact that whether we're "pretty" or not is such a big deal is something we should be fighting against in general, not arguing over whether "ugly" girls have the right to self esteem, or whether "pretty" girls have the right to have human problems.
