This song would actually not help anyne clinically depressed. For them it is NOT "just a moment." But for anyone ho's just going through a rough time, this is a great pick-me-up.

The song was written for Michael Hutchence, a man I deeply admire, but Bono once said tht the argument he has in the song, he's having with himself as well.

I've nticed it's written in a sort of conversation between friends.

1- I am not afraid of anything in this world. There's nothing you can throw at me that I haven't already heard. (at the end of it all) I'm just trying to find a decent melody, a song that I can sing in my own company. (just trying to get on with life, though it's hard)

2- I never thought you were a fool... but darling, look at you! (in disbelief that the friend would talk this way- I find it humourous that he called another man "darling" :P ) You gotta stand up straight, carry your wn weight. These tears are gong nowhere, baby! (What's the use in moping whwhen you can do something! Just get through it! You've got to get yourself tgether, you've got stuck in a moment and you can't get ut of it. Don't say that later will be better, now youre stuck in a moment and youcan't get out of it. (Get out of this rut ad you'll be fine!)

1- I will not forsake the colors that you bring. The nights you flled wth fireworks they, they left me with nothing. (You brought me joy, but I lost it in the morning) I am still enchnted by the light you brought to me. Listen through your ears, and through your eyes I can see.(I remember how wonderful those days were. Now only a memori's left.)

2- You re such a fool, to worry like you do! I know it's tough, and you an never get enough of what you don't raly need now.. my oh my! (Dont worry, it'll all turn out right in the end! You don't need to see the future. Just go with the flow!) You've got to get yourself together, you've got stuck in a moment and you can't get out of it. Don't say that later wil be better, now you're stuck in a moment and you can't get out of it.

1- I wasuncncius, half asleep... the water is warm til you discover how deep. (Reality was like a jolt to me. I felt comfortable until life became too much to handle.) I wasn't jumping, for me it was a fall It's a long way down to nothing at all. (Falling into the pit of depression, burdened by life)

2- You've got to get yourself together you've got stuck in moment and you can't get out of it. Don't day that later will be better now you're stuck in a moment and you can't get out of it. And f the night runs over... and if the day won't last... (if the darknss overtakes you) and if your way should falter, along that stonypass, it's just a moment! THIS TiE WIlL PASS! (You WI get through this rough patch)

The video should have acted out this exact coversation. I don't like either version of them.

You know, I was thinking about the lyrics today and that's of course why I'm here. I couldn't help but think that this was either written by two people or Bono was writing this to himself as well. It DOES seem like a conversation. I know the stated reason was it was written was for Michael, but parts of this, the tone of the song, seems really as though he wrote this to himself. Something to lift himself up and kick himself in the pants.

@EnduringChill Yeah, but it doesn't really matter if you're clinically depressed or not (and btw, I am), life's still a bitch. This time will pass, our time will pass. We're all going to die one day. What about being stuck in life, and "getting out of the moment" is actually going to Heaven? What if he's saying that no matter how bad our lives are at the moment, eventually we'll all be saved and go to a better place when we die?
