This song means that he needs something (a relationship) easy not hard; someone to listen and hang out; he thinks he has found someone that meets the criteria but does she even have a clue of that?
He plans to take advantage while she 'hangs him out to dry' or abandons him by doing him; but he can't be with anyone every night because hooking up has a price--the price being that the girl will eventually fall in love.
He finally wants to do right by the girl and ask her on a date and he realizes that many would love to date her so he is simply saying, I know you are a special person and I want to do right by you.
Then he goes back to restating what he wants and the fact that she fits the shoe.
Regardless of whether or not this was about someone he actually knew I don't know...not a huge fan just heard the song and wanted to interpret. I don't think it matters either way because people should interpret it in a manner that has meaning in their own life.
