I basicly think this song is about old love, or well. Basicly he's singing about someone he loved before and after they've gone away.

"Oh well i know you stroke the set-up baby, of all the leaves up in the ground. And i know our song is old but heavy as I see dry leaves falling down, oh."

This part of the song might be the time when their love was fading. "And i know our song is old and heavy as I see dry leaves fallin' down, oh". At this time he's basicly realizing that their love isn't gonna last, or is sort of a burden. Basicly the tree represents the base of the love so to say and the leaves is the love itself going away.

"With all this fever in my mind, I could drown in your kerosene eyes Oh, you're just a riddle in the sky Oh, where do my bluebird fly?"

This part of the song might be after they have seperated, here's why i think so; Basicly he's thinking about her and all of this on his mind he still feels as though he loves her, but she's gone "she's just a riddle in the sky" "Oh, where do my bluebird fly?" That's obvious, he's basicly wondering where she went, or what went wrong, or what she's doing now.

"And as the early sigh of dawn will thunder I see you stir the fog around And when you find the voice and gears of sunset we'll hear that high and lonesome sound, oh"

This might be how he feels lonely, he's basicly saying that alot of things, or some things, reminds him about her and as the "sun" is going down he's still away from her and alone. "we'll hear that high and lonsome sound, oh" (i did notice that it said we'll, but that might be referring to himself anyways)

"and I will question every wind if they gone through the glow of your eyes Oh, you're just a riddle in the sky Oh, where do my bluebirds fly?"

i think this is sort of the same as the last of these lines since it is sort of the chorus and most of the time choruses are the same.

"Oh, well I know you stroke your feathers baby upon the ghosts along my trail And I know well I was sold and buried before I knew it was for sale, oh"

I'm not quite sure what the first couple of sentences mean, but i was thinking they mean sort of like it might have been something he's done to her and im not sure but "stroke your feathers along the ghosts along my trail" means that she doesnt really give a shit, even he says he loves her. "And i know well i was sold and buried, before i knew it was for sale, oh.", he knows that what he did was wrong. But he didnt expect such a swift and sudden ending to it all.

"With all this fever in my mind I should aim for your kerosene eyes Oh, you're just a target in the sky I say where do my bluebirds fly? I say where do my bluebirds fly?"

I was thinking they might have got this wrong cause to me it sounds like he's saying; "With all this fever in my mind. Should I aim for your kerosene eyes?" That would mean, like if he even should try anymore, if even has a chance anymore. "Oh you're just a target in the sky" You're just a target in the sky, and well tbh, i think he's reffering that it's really fucking hard to hit a target up in the sky and that well, the song is basicly about unrequited love.
