I think there's been some confusion about the 'set apart' bit...
In the bible it says that christians are 'set apart' to be different than other people and not do unholy things and sin.
So by this i think Jesse's saying that he's set apart to do good things and be pure and holy, but he still does stuff wrong...
I actually thought of that phrase as a reference to ancient Greek mythology.
"When we were made we were set apart, But life is a test and i get bad marks." According to Greek mythology, a person is born and split in two and they go through their life searching for their other half or their "soulmate." And that's their test.
