I never thought about realism in this song. and I still can't see a realistic (negative) background for this song. It's about a person you have lost and you lvoe. You still dream about her/him, but when you wake up you immediately return to reality and she/he is gone. But as long as you sleep, you can say "tonight you'll belong to me" (until yo uwake up).
