I think of it as an affair, too, but perhaps with an old flame.

He has moved on and changed his life (perhaps he's religious now), but he still loves her. She knows that and knows that if she leads him to believe they might get back together, that he'll meet up with her, even if it goes against his conscience. She doesn't really want to get back together with him, though, she's just feeling nostalgic and just wants to relive old times for one night. So she's taking advantage of his weakness for her, and maybe is feeling a little guilty about that...

He knows that it's not a good idea to meet her but tries to convince himself that with his faith he can resist the temptation and just talk to her (as long as you bring your Bible you're secure), even though deep down he knows that's not true. His addiction to her will never be gone.
