It is so easy for us to take the word of the media without stopping to think, wait a minute, it may not be completely true.
The other element to this song is that people end up giving their lives to the television, which is a very sad thing indeed. It reminds me of a verse from Jeff Buckley's 'The Sky is a Landfill' song that goes "turn away from the screen, it will tell you nothing more". There isn't much spiritual growth that comes from spacing out in front of the tv.
