I originally thought he wrote this about his love for Jesus, but with the lyric "a ring don't mean nothing if you can't haul the weight" it truely hits home that this song is about his love for his wife. In a society where you can get a divorce if you wake up one day and don't think you love your spouse anymore, he bashes that notion with powerful, emotional lyrics.
