Completely agreed with Henry Krinkle. This song is most definitely one of the most painfully honest ever written. I had no idea that "pop" songs like this existed, it's a searing truthfulness that is worthy of Stephen Sondheim and his ilk. My jaw dropped the first time I heard this song and I have yet to pick it up and re-attach it.
