I can't put my finger on what the VCR represents here…

There's something utterly obsolescent about the device, something decayed or decaying, something just plain old.

At the same time, there's something comforting and unassuming about the VCR. I can't tell which they're going for.

To me VCRs are old, but strong. It's something you use when you want a walk down memory lane. I think they are saying that their friendship is old and simple, but it works.

I think it has something to do with the next part as well: big love is kinda an odd or obscure show. If youre with someone new or who you can't completely trust youre not going to watch something now considered kinda crappy or talk about a show about poloygamy if your trying to give them a good impression of you. But if its somebody you can complety trust and who knows you well you dont care because you know them and that they dont care/enjoy it. Because i think this goes bacl to the whole idea of...
