I think neenzabeen is on the right track with respect to the meaning of this song. To me it seems to have an ironic or double meaning. On the one hand Kelly Jones thinks the cab driver is an ignaramous who is giving him a hard time when he is on holiday but on the other the things he says to him make such an impression that he has to write a song about it. The easy listening, sugary sweet sound to the song belies the powerful message that is contained in the lyrics. It's like a confession from the singer that there may be some truth in what the cab driver is saying, and it is a wry comment on human nature that we all tend to choose the easy option in life sometimes rather than exploring an alternative that may be more difficult and challenging.

Hi BuzzAlrdin -
This interpretation is interesting. Actually I had to comment because I thought exactly the same thing when listening to this song. What I wanted to ask you however is, where exactly does he say this - "we all tend to choose the easy option in life sometimes rather than exploring an alternative that may be more difficult and challenging" - in the song? I have read the lyrics 10 times and cannot see anything that points to this message.!
