Sometimes it's hard to understand why someone loves you so much, especially when you feel like you're always doing the wrong thing or neglecting them. It's hard to say this song is completely literal in that the narrator is necessarily being a bad guy... The perspective is skewed. If he really was dishonorable, what remorse would he feel for wronging his lover?
