This is def one of my favorite songs by them.. what i get from it is that it's sort of refering to negative things around you like the lines "theres a vulture perching right off screen and it's bitter and whispers chaotic things".. and as far as the substitution its up to you if your gona make a change in your life or if your gonna let tha same things hold you back..
