this song is so beautiful,
It makes me think of my first love.
"I'd rather be working for a paycheck
Than wait in to win the lottery"
I think he's refering to someone he has a relationship with, but an unstable on/off one. He's saying even though she's the best, and he's in love with her (You know, we kind of put those we love on a pedestal, and maybe she isn't really that wonderful, but that's what he percives), at the end of the day he would rather have a dependable person to come home to than a person, who's better than anyone else in the world, can't even rely on be around tomorrow.
but i think the lyrics can be interpreted to anything, depending on how you fit it into your life.
