wow

I've been a godsmack fan for years... they've always been pretty open about the fact that they weren't too big into drugs... some even called them a "strait-edge" band, falsely so, but still.

I know bands often lie about drug use... but the story behind the band's name, and the song, have always been the same, all members have concurred.

They are influenced by AIC, but the name is from the cold sore incident...

the song? it's a mixture of the movie and of sully's spirituality. he's wiccan, which is a peaceful religion (i myself was wiccan for years). he had a run in with voodoo, which welcomes black magick (not some shit where they're trying to kill everyone, or any david copperfield type shit, it just deals with making yourself better through sometimes shady ways) i don't have much experience with voodoo, just what i learned from a high priestess at a pagan camp, but i've read up on santeria (the two are very similar, the different name is just because they come from different areas) there are spiritual rites that involve chemicals, more commonly referred to as "drugs" but they aren't used in a recreational way (much like peyote being legal for members of the native american religion, but illegal for anyone else). there are also many mentions of snakes, and snakebites and snake's skin and snake's venom... mostly because the areas voodoo (and santeria) come from are quite infested with venomous snakes, and the people always found meanings in deaths/illnesses/any affect of these snake bites.

THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT HEROIN.

but it's clear that it can be interpreted that way... so, maybe word your posts as "i relate this song to heroin" not "they wrote it about heroin"

go fuck yourselves and have a nice day
