There is darkness in every person, but we spend so much time trying to deny it and fight against it that we waste our lives in the process. The darkness is part of us, so without it, we can never be whole, destined to spend our lives searching for what we are missing because we can't believe that what we are missing is that other piece of ourselves that we are so desperate to deny.
I believe this song is about accepting that darkness within yourself in order to find salvation. It's about yin and yang, about finding harmony within the balance between good and evil, love and hate, light and darkness. It's about embracing the darkness within, in order to walk in the light.
