I don't believe it's about drugs, at least not to me. This song reminds me of a woman I knew two decades ago. We had an intense relationship that ended with no real finish. Fast forward twenty years, and my life has been what it's been. It's a good life, but every so often I wonder "what if"? Regret is a powerful emotion and this song really captures that for me, anyway.
