Personally, my opinion of the song's meaning is this.
Two people loved each other a lot, staying together for quite some time. But, as time goes by, minute by minute and hour by hour, they slowly drift apart further. He then finds out she cheated on him, but he still loves her and tries to forgive her but he can't as she had broke his heart and his trust in her yet he still stays together with her, hoping that they could go back to the way it was before eventhough he already realized they're falling out of love as time passes swiftly yet slowly. She loves him and regrets cheating on him and there's still love but it's slowly deteriorating day by day. He knows this as well but because he couldn't trust her again because of what she did to him he just can't fix it all the while longing for the way it was before because its like he's wondering 'Will she do it to me again?', fearing that she would. And some part of him still can't accept the fact that she loved him yet she still cheated on him.
It's like you have five strings, and one by one, it breaks.
