has a very country, rustic feel to it. i hear ray lamontagne a bit, but only because i knew ray before i knew horse feathers.

regarding a meaning, i can only pull general feelings from the verses, i'm a bit shy of having a full understanding (however subjective)

at first, i think of how terrible things can spontaneously pop up, or even worse how bad can come from good. i'm then directed towards the image of hell on your face, which leads me to thinking about a garden with the growing and dirt images. however, i interpret it to mean someone has been tested, they're aged (grown) and things haven't gone perfectly. complaints arise.

i get lost in the father of three verse, and i start to think that the song touches on how traditions and old, stubborn ways of doing things can cause trouble. I don't see this song challenging old methods and practices, but its sort of a blur of family, trials, and persistence.

i didn't know a cur was a hunting dog

have you heard of samamidon? very simliar i think. if you havent you should check out the song "SamAmidon - Saro" Amazing song! Love charles too by the way!
