"I never thought that I would find myself
In bed amongst the stones = means I find myself thinking in bed but not asleep like those around me
The columns are all men" = means the prison is mankind = the world
"Begging to crush me" = on a planet of 6.7 billion people do I really matter?
"No shapes sail on the dark deel lakes" = In a sea of people how can we be individuals?
"and no flags wave me home" = There is no guide through life.
"In the caves" = World / mind / place
"All cats are grey" = we are all the same - its hard to be unique
"The textures coat my skin" = even if we strive to be unique we are still a part of the whole - we absorb it
"In the death cell
A single note
Rings on and on and on... " = with all this in my mind I now understand that a single moment of beauty will last forever.
We all spend so much time thinking about was has been, and what will be, that we let the present slip through our fingers.

Our biochemistry is based upon a basic chemical reward system which drives, amongst other things, a fundamental need to eat and sleep. Yet we allow it to overflow into our entire psychology, seeking only to flood ourselves with rewards?

Why haven't we learnt that these needs can not be fulfilled? If we eat and sleep today, will we be full and rested for the rest of our lives? If we're driven by rewards that can never be satisfied, we'll never be happy. Psychological rewards will never be satiated, it's not about "I" it's about "us". This is why so much negativity surrounds us all.
It's not about receiving, it's about giving.
It's not about completion, it's about surrender.
It's not about death, It's about life.

Not about death about life.

Love this theory! It fits very well with the view of life he puts forward in other songs - seize the moment, don't be afraid to be different/yourself.
