i think the thunder is a methaphore for the changes and the hard times you have, like hearing a thunder under a blue sky. having issues to solve is ok, and she thought it was ok for him too.
but turned out he was not cool with it, she cant reply anything but "it's okay, we all feel left out". and i think she's not just giving up, but she has a mature approach, where nothing is left to do but accepting your partner's decision.
"growing up can get you down" is just a statement, to justify the feeling she has, no one told us that life would have been this hard, but we can just face the truth and get awareness to move on.
