I'm pretty sure "Twist as if you're just like me" is right - the song is all about the intense longing for companionship, yearning for someone who doesn't want you, but might be willing to pretend to for a while.
Personally, I like the idea that it might be "The twist is that you're just like me." It's still kind of a sad song, but in a different way. It's sort of double unrequited love/desire. Both the uy and the girl want to be loved, but not necessarily by each other. However, they are together at the moment, so why not "twist" for a while. And, the use of a alternative meaning of the word "twist" is neat, too.
