Lyric discussion by Mero

I get the impression it's about a girl who's slept with a boy.

  1. Girls call them boys, I think gay guys call them guys.
  2. Sis' don't care what brothers do on NYE, but they might ask about their own sis, especially if they're younger.
  3. Young guys don't drink champagne. Girls drink.
  4. The intention is a kiss, which obviously ended up going considerably further, Guys don't want a kiss, they want a Home Run. Girls want a kiss, for the romance.

So that's why I think the story is about a girl.

  • Guys call other guys boys
  • I don't see this as being substantial evidence
  • On New Years everyone drinks champagne
  • On New Years a guy looking for a kiss might not be looking to wake up in another guys bed.
  • Your "proof" is rather sexist.

thewahwah, A guy could also be worried about an unprotected sexual encounter.

I think it could honestly be about either a boy or a girl. I think it is silly to try and stretch things to make it fit one way or the other.

I'd listen to this song and sometimes think back to these comments. Whether the 'protagonist' in this song is a boy or a girl. After downloading the MP3 of this song from CTFTPA's website (a version from 2008) the cover art drawn by Owen is two guys kissing. But before i saw this i also pictured him as a male in my mind. I suppose it doesn't matter - and in a way it's better that he was genderless. Just thought i'd share incase anyone else out there had wondered this for years like me.
