The song is specifically criticizing the yuppie ex-hippies who no longer give a shit about the environment they were so adamantly in the defense of in their youth. They just ignore the slow decline of the world around them, but even when ignored it is still there (The first chorus is on the real beach, covered in pollution, bathed in real moonlight. The other one is the hot tub, the artificial "beach" with "electric moonlight". Even when ignored, there'll always be a real moon above marin, ergo the pollution).
