Now that I read the comments up there it does seem a bit Lolita-esque, but when I first heard this song I thought it was more about domestic abuse (and possibly forced sex/rape?) 'God help me I don't see how I can live this way And I don't know why he's touching me Won't you shine in my direction and help me? Won't you lend me your protection and help me?' She is calling out to God to save her from this man. Yet she still feels guilty and unclean because of what he's doing to her; 'Am I guilty or am I just waiting around For the tide to come in so the truth can come out If I had a dollar for every time I repented the sin and commit the same crime I'd be sitting on top of the world today'

If anyone's heard Flyleaf's Tina, that's about a woman who is abused so badly by her boyfriend she first abuses and then sets fire to herself; its POSSIBLE that this song is a nod in that direction, as 'That doesn't compare to what I do to myself when you're not there' to me seems to be hinting towards self harm.
