You could take it that hes being sarcastic and saying that the church is preying on the down and troubled for their own gain (money)
I'd agree that it sounds like a sermon but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be sarcastic or anything about the church preying on the down and out. I think it's much more of a combination of what you are saying and what Friday is saying.
