I think theres no deep deep meaning in this song, their bluntly stating the expectancy of a well off musician's life. the lyrics in my humble opinion are bluntly perfect.
I would have to agree with you. I hate how people automatically rated you down because your saying something may just be simple for once. People are always searching for a deeper meaning. The thing is, there isn't always a deeper meaning and sometimes people get carried away and analyze things too much.

I also agree. People can put different meaning to it so it relates more to them if they want, but this song is about them and the fast paced lives they are now living because of being rock stars. The put feeling into the picture they paint by talking about the people they miss though and old memories...but what else can they do? They gotta be rock stars now.

Normally I would agree with yall. But in this case I have to say that I's MGMT there's always a deep meaning and it usaly has something to do with having a peter pan complex.
These are some of the rare people who realize that most kids form 18 to 30 are Lost Boys now a days. On top of that, this is one of the few bands that they're music video's tend to be a visual form of the song in its most primitive form. The video also segests that he's singing about that point in life where you realize...

@enkychy except its not simply stating what a musician's life is. It is a simpler song but it is also deep. It's quite clearly not about people who are actual musicians but people who aspire to be them, by going to expensive bars drinking too much and taking drugs etc in the deluded hope they will get the trappings of wealth and fame just by being in the kind of place stars go to. It is about how stars live immoral lives and end up literally dying young and how the stars wish they could have an office job but...

It is about how stars live immoral lives and end up literally dying young and how the stars wish they could have an office job but the people in the office jobs wish they could be stars. Ultimately no one is happy because they wish they where something else, but perhaps the most unhappy are those in the good office jobs who feel there is something more to life yet are deluding themselves about where they will find true happiness, not at the bottom of a bottle or in a happy pill but in their familes and friends, and they end up dying trying to find a star to date when its all just a fantasy because just cause they can afford to go to the posh clubs doesnt mean they will ever actually get to fuck with the stars. At least the rich musicians and actors whilst being miserable are actually having sex with hot women and have fancy cars, at least their miserableness is tapered a bit by having the trapings of wealth. The guy who said that folk are lost these days between 18-30 is right, in fact this song is about how folk in their early thirties or mid thirites are more and more playing the same game of pretending they can be rich famous and that every one feels they are young for ever its saying its both a good and bad thing, I think it saying not to forget your true friends and family, by all means party and have fun and try to look young for as long as you can by any means but don't forget about what really makes you happy. It is both spirtiual and nihilstic at the same time, quite an awesome song full of morla liberalism and conservatism in the one song. Jus brill, I like how it is basically saying their is a place for both way of looking at things and more than anything I love the idea about songs that cover both the grass is not always greener on the other side and songs that reflect that things where more marvellous when you where a child. When you where a teen you wanted to be an adult, when your an adult you want to be a teen. When your a star you want a nomral quite life and to be in an office, and in office you want to get wrecked and have lots of hot sex like the stars do. Humanity is fucked up lol.
