Okay, I'm going to have to disagree on a couple points made ...

First, I do not think the song is a love song at all. From my understanding this story is centered around one character, yes there third person parts of the song could be narrarating her thoughts and feelings and not actually be someone's opinion on her.

Anyways, onto my interpretation. a girl who lacks the physical apperance of beauty as beheld by the norms of society. She may feel she has the beauty within, the sparkling intelligence but no one can see past her "grostique" appearance. It's a song about a cry for help. A cry to be gifted and accepted by people. A cry to be valued and love for who she is inside.

The morning star is her shred of hope. She only goes out at night, for fear that daylight reveal her ugliness to the world (there is not indication that she truly is ugly, or she's merely self-conscious about her image) She hopes that in the morning light, a mircle will arise, and her face will change into something more accepted; something beautiful. But as the chorus closes with "Ugly, you are ugly You, you are ugly" It's almost a decline of hope, because nothing has changed. Like wasted faith in an unpromising religion, but still she prays and hopes that if there is someone out there, that they will have mercy on her.

So the third person view, in my opinion is her bashing herself on her looks and her esteem. I can relate well to the contradictory thoughts and extreme slef critisim.

The point is: I really like this song, and love the band!
