Godzilla himself is a wonderful "political statement" about the terrible power of nuclear weaponry.
Godzilla is a representation of the awakening of a power that Mankind cannot control, nor can they destroy ultimately.
Godzilla becomes a force of nature unto himself, like typhoon or an earthquake. This is why (in my opinion) the American version of Godzilla was so awful: the monster is supposed to be indestructible. We aren't supposed to be able to kill it with our weapons. We created this new and terrible power, and now we must live with it, and pray it doesn't wipe us out.
Nature, in the form of the Hybrid/Mutant monster, has indeed pointed up the folly of Man. At least in the Japanese movies.
