The songs great because it can be applied to many situations and different people relate to it differently...it's a universal song. When I listen to it, the artist is in the middle of a relationship that he truely is happy with and likes. The feelings that won't go away are the feelings for another person, whether those feelings are permanent or just a phase they kinda worry him and make him think. Diamonds are one of the stongest materials in the world, when he says "diamonds they fade" he talks about his strong relationship that he's currently in seems to be dulled/is fading in comparison to these new feelings that he feels.
