Well, as agreed with much said above, this song is fantastic. But, rather than an ass, I'd say that the tonge is really just a visual of what he tries to say later. "i guess what i'm a sayin'is there ain't no better reason to rid yourself of vanity" He looks in a mirror, fogs is up, and he no longer can see is own face. It becomes new. (that, or it could be that little happy face that everyone draws on fogged up glass) and he laughs at what he see's.
Now, to go a little far with it, it could be that he was obsessed with seeing something about himself, His vanities, and then, when he fogged it up, he finally realised how stupid he was being for making such an effort on looks.
