I imagine this to be about a girl who seems kind of dull and boring on the outside to most people. But he can see through that and knows that inside she's bursting with passion and idea's and stuff. So she's like a black object, an object that has actually absorbed all colors, it's just not visible to the eye. He's trying to comfort her, telling her not to worry about all those other people because he sees her for who she truely is.
This is fact not fiction
For the first time in years
I think here he's saying this girl really is special to him. It's not one of those relationships for the sake of having a relationship.. when you're just telling yourself you love the other person, you know (fiction). This time his love is an actual fact.

He had a chance with this girl, but he blew it, because he didn't realize how special she was from his first impression of her (like everyone else). Now he does, but it's too late and she's moved on.
