First off, as an active duty member getting ready to go to Iraq. I can give you all some facts. First, being in the military doesn't mean you are poor. I've been in 3 years now and I drive a '00 Corvette, pay for my house, and have a lot of nice toys. The money in the military is good and when you deploy it is tax free. In four months I'll make around 12,000 dollars tax free. Second, reservists are always told that you can be called up at a moments notice. Reserves don't make much money for 1 weekend a month or two weeks a year. The reason people join reserves are to make a few extra bucks on the weekend, get free medical and dental, and get free money for college. And they are told more often than not that they are the first to go to war so the active duty can keep operations in check at home bases. Weekend warriors who milk benefits shouldn't complain when the government calls upon them to get work out of their investments. The military recruits about 100,000 people a year. This war has been going on for a few years now, why do people keep signing up? Numbers might be down, but not that much. I'll tell you why, they want a piece of the action and they want to serve. There hasn't been a draft since vietnam and there won't be unless a disaster like a nuclear attack occurs. Lastly, this war was based on weapons. Some weapons were found but the big ones haven't been. Probably because they got shifted to Iran, but that's another story. This war is justified by the pain in the ass that Saddam Hussein caused the whole middle east by not following UN sanctions for over 10 years. Sure we didn't do wat the UN wanted, but what kind of pressure did they put on Saddam? And what about all the genocide Saddam comitted in Iraq. Please some of you seem really smart, research the last ten years and tell me that it wasn't time to fix this. Don't let a band who makes millions of dollars influence your political beliefs, they are more likely more mistrued than you are. System's music is good but these rants get old and the lies they push on America's youth is just as bad as a politicians. Use your civil liberty, get out and vote in your states lower level elections and educate yourself on candidates. Once you get your representatives straight push on towards the whitehouse.
You apparently are ignorant of true wealth and what IS rich. everything you said implies you ARE poor and associate with poor people who need to "milk benefits" all these are incentive to join the service.. there is a tangible benefit in that. Even you :mr" got money" are easily swayed into a tax free payout. if you survive why? why even do it for money or not pay tax? your rich right? lol

You are poor and ignorant to the fact that you are. People keep joining up because they see it as an easy out like you. or they see it as a need or means to survive. just immagin if we had universal health care.. uncle sam would have to scratch that off the benefit list and lose a grip on the poor. Sending the poor was always the intention. Just check the lyrics of a song called Fortunate Son by CCR
thats proof its been that way for a long long time.
e>What weapons? NSA can see a dime on the ground yet cant find the BIG weapons you mention.
The educated go to officer school and the poor and ignorant go enlisted.
the officers rarely if ever see any live action. while the enlisted do all the dirt.
this song is talking about YOU buddy. you are the poor being sent for a little tax free income. just proves that taxes are arbitrary.
this is way late but if your still alive, how do you feel about saddam and the war now? he and Bin laden have been gone a long time and STILL we have issues.
@The Piece It's a little presumptuous of you to think they are referencing the US army isn't it??? Perhaps they are referencing the Armenian Army or another army? Not everything in the world revolves around the fuckin' US......... yet.

@The Piece You may have all of that stuff, but most of the people who go into the military DON'T have all of that. My dad didn't have anything except 2 kids, a wife that hated him and a broken down truck when he went into the army. He came out with more, sure, but at the expense of his BACK... he's now deemed disabled, and I have to help him along. I may be 15, but I'm a critical thinker, and I know that I can't always trust what I hear, and/or WHAT I READ ON THE INTERNET... sure,...

For all I know, this could be a massive Virtual Reality like The Matrix.
Long story short. PEOPLE, DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR, AND SOAD LEAVES THEIR LYRICS OPEN TO ANY INTEREPERTATION. THATS WHY THEY MAKE NO FUCKIN' SINCE IN THE FIRST PLACE...
@The Piece @The Piece amen brother. Don't let the ignorant people who have not themselves served tell you that you're wrong. And for the people who have relatives in and think they know something because their relative/loved one had a bad experience, that doesn't mean it's always the case. As for poor? My mom went in dirt poor because she wanted to do something for this country and my dad went in well off for the same reason. They both came out of it well off. I would rather have a president that went to war for the things Bush...

I would rather have a president that went to war for the things Bush did than not go to war when we should/not help our true allies when we should/get involved and help those we shouldn't like Obama is now. War isn't fun and no one wants to go, least of all the people who are fighting in it. But it's necessary at times, and we're getting more shit from people now with a weak president who now has a reputation for not fighting than we did for presidents who didn't fuck around.

That's one way to put it. The military certainly pays well, so being in the military means your income is more than decent. This is exactly how first world governments manage to recruit poor members of their population. Just give them money and they'll risk their lives. In contrast, they (politicians and stakeholders) will not be entering the battlefield themselves to fight for whatever they wish to claim. They don't need your $3000/month tax free, the poor do.
