This to me is deeply spiritual. I agree it can have different meanings depending on your current state of mind, but here's mine: Losing connection with a loved one (that can be a spouse, or your version of a higher being). Loss of belief. Then a wandering around through life. this is like most of us. We start out as children believeing blindly in love and faith, grow up into young adults and grow cynical, cold, doubtful freaks, then, if lucky, find a redemption somehow, somewhere. This is a common theme in many movies and books. I think this may be Gabriel's take on it.
